As Kanye was soaring to new heights off the success of The College Dropout and its numerous hits, he followed up with one of the best albums of the 2000s. In this grandiose successor West continues the themes of The Dropout but with much more luster and lavish charm. His lyrics grew more stuntastic, his flow got smoother, and the beats still knocked, but with a newfound sense of cinematism (inspired by the llikes of Jon Brion). Also, this album (and my favorite Kanye track of all time) introduced us to a young spitter out of the Chi named Lupe Fiasco. Delivering one of the biggest digitial singles of all time, “Gold Digger”, and the best feature of Hov’s career ”Diamonds From Sierra Leone”, West went from hip-hop’s newest big thing, to the trendsetter and taste maker of the muscial landscape.
