Laurel Halo takes a lot of risks with her music. Her cutting edge electronic music gets released on the hip English label Hyperdub even though she herself hails from Michigan. Her style puts vocals front and center in the mix, with little to no effects to soften the sound, and she does this despite the fact that she’s far from a classically trained singer. It’s a risk that threatens to distract listeners from the soundscapes she’s singing over, but it also gives the music a much sharper and immediate edge that many of her peers lack. “Sunlight on the Faded” is the title track from her upcoming EP, and you can listen to it below with some Belgian DJ giving a bonus introduction.
