Back in 2011, an album by the name of Widowspeak flew under the radar as one of the great releases during that year. Considering it was the band’s self-titled debut, Widowspeak established themselves as a formidable dream-rock group that included subtle psychedelic accents and whispered vocals that drew comparison to Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. It’s no new information that their sophomore release, Almanac, is due out late January of 2013, but the fact they have a fresh single is. ”The Dark Age” is the most recent taste we have of Almanac, and it demonstrates their apparent desire to add edgier, more cutting rock styles to their melodies. If Widowspeak was the band’s introduction, Almanac will probably be their big coming out party.
